THE DAY OF CULMINATION

"And he has given him authority to judge because he is the Son of Man. Do not be amazed at this, for a time is coming when all who are in their graves will hear his voice…” John 5:28

The day of culmination is a day when the Gospel net is drawn in, and marks the end of this era of time as we know it. Matthew 13:49 describes it as "the end of the age".

Interestingly, close to 100 years ago, conventional wisdom believed that time has always existed; that we live in a closed static universe where everything that is would always be, and time is forever ticking away. However, in 1929 Edwin Hubble made the observation that wherever you look in the universe galaxies appear to be moving away from each other. If the expanding universe were to contract, we could trace it back through time to what is known as an infinitesimally small singularity, which would mark the very beginning of both space and time. Hubble’s research confirmed what God has always known and Scripture reveals – that time is not a constant; it has a beginning and will have an end.

God, however, lives outside of time in what we call eternity. Both Genesis 1:1 and John 1:1 start with, "In the beginning was…" not is, but past tense, was. In other words, before the beginning began, God was, God existed and He has no beginning, no end. There are several passages in Scripture that record the life of Jesus by a timeline. There was a time that fully came when He was born, a time when the kingdom was inaugurated, a time not yet come when He would die, a time when He did die, a time when He was raised, and a time when He ascended to heaven.

God does have a calendar and that calendar has a future tense. Acts 17:31 says, “For he has set a day when he will judge the world with justice by the man he has appointed. He has given proof of this to everyone by raising him from the dead.” The Day of Judgment will come unexpectedly, “like a thief in the night” (2 Peter 3:10 NKJV). The end of this age will be marked by certain events and signs, and one of them is going to be the hauling in of the Gospel net.

It is vitally important we understand that we cannot be saved on the coattails of someone else, not even our spouses. There has to be a direct work of Christ in our hearts; a living person we were designed to know and who is our only means of being reconciled to God. As Christians, we will be caught up in the Gospel net, and it is imperative we come to know Christ for real.

PRAYER: Dear Heavenly Father, in the brief time I am given on earth, help me to introduce as many people as I can to You, and may Your Holy Spirit draw them into relationship with You. Thank You, Lord.
